It has been theorised by many cosmologists and John Stuart Reid that sound could have had a key role to play in the formation of the universe. Seemingly sound is spherical and not wave-like (see the physics of sound). If we then consider sound's ability to create form in matter (as demonstrated by cymatics) then it is not surprising that sound may have influenced the shape of life-forms in the primordial oceans of earth.
